     James Bond Island is located in Phang Nga Bay within the Straits of Malacca, between the island of Phuket and the Malay Peninsula mainland close to southern Thailand. The island’s English nickname derives from the fact that it was the setting for Scaramanga’s lair in the film The man with the Golden Gun, starring Roger Moore as Ian Fleming’s legendary British agent, 007.
     With such a rich and varied natural environment, it’s not surprising that a number of different human cultures also co-exist in the local communities. Fishing is a popular industry, as is harvesting Nypa palm leaves, in addition to catering for the large presence of international tourism that is attracted by the area’s natural beauty.
The original community inhabits the island of Koh Pannyi, a village built on stilts because of the tides that cause a water height increase of more than 2.5 meters.
